Book 55: Marrow Island by Alexis M Smith

I’ll be honest: I couldn’t finish this one. I made it only about a third of the way through before giving up.

What I read was vaguely reminiscent of The Island Will Sink, another novel I reviewed recently, both in setting – both take place in post-disaster worlds in which an island features prominently – but sadly also in terms of its poor characterisation. Both books are populated by people that don’t engage and don’t ring true.

It’s not bad exactly – the premise is interesting and the writing okay – but I just couldn’t connect with it. It’s bloodless and boring.

And life’s too short for boring books.
