About Adam Gartrell

I’m a journalist currently covering Australian politics in Parliament House, Canberra. Over more than a decade in the media I’ve also worked in Sydney and Perth, and spent two years as a foreign correspondent based in Jakarta.

But that’s enough about that. Let’s talk books.

When I’m not working, I’m usually reading. From modern, critically-acclaimed literary fiction to 1950s schlock horror; 19th century classics to superhero comics. I read it all.

I don’t discriminate based on era or genre or snobbish notions of what’s “worthy” or “serious”. If it’s got a strong story or great writing – preferably both – I’m in.

My favourite authors include Graham Greene, Evelyn Waugh, Michael Chabon, Kazuo Ishiguro, Kurt Vonnegut, Dave Eggers, Alex Garland, Jeffrey Eugenides, Ray Bradbury, Shirley Jackson, Cormac McCarthy and Margaret Atwood.
